Qassim Paschas Brunnen (Sabil Qasim Pasha)

Located in the western part of the courtyard of the Al Aqsa Mosque, northeast of the Gate of Al-Silasila and south of the Qaitbay Fountain, this fountain was built in 932 Hijri / 1525 AD by Qasim Pasha, the Ottoman governor of Istanbul.

The fountain has a stone pedestal on which an octagonal basin sits. A hemispherical dome rises above the body of the fountain. The Sabil is surrounded by chairs for ritual ablution, which can be reached via the steps. The well is still in use and many visitors to the Al-Aqsa Mosque use it for the ritual ablution.
