Bab al-Khalil

Bab al-Khalil is located on the Western Wall of the Old City, near the northwest corner of the Citadel. It is also known as Jaffa Gate.

Jaffa Gate is characterized by an entrance topped by a commemorative inscription with the numerous names of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and his titles, in addition to the construction date, which is the month of Jumada al-awwal (fifth Hijri month) of the year 945. The Gate comprises an entrance topped by a pointed stone arch, and the opening of the entrance is covered by two, massive, copper fortified wooden shutters.
