Qubbat Al-Mi’raj (Dome of Ascension)

Qubbat Al-Mi’raj inside al-Aqsa Mosque, is located meters away to the northwest of the Holy Dome of the Rock. The current structure of the Dome was renovated in the year 597 Hijri / 1200AD. The founder of this Dome is unknown, but it was renovated in the era of al-Malik al-Adil Sayf ad-Din Abu-Bakr, who is Saladin’s brother. He ordered Prince Abu Omar al-Zingeeli, Commander of Jerusalem, to renovate the Dome.

It is an honorary dome commemorating Prophet Muhammad’s miracle of the Isra and Mi’raj. The Dome is hemispherical and slightly pointed. The drum of the Dome stands atop eight open angles, which were later closed. The Dome can be accessed through an open door in its northern angle.
