The Seven Domes of the Russian Church of Mary Magdalene

The Russian Church of Mary Magdalene is located on the western slope of the Mount of Olives, to the east of the Church of Gethsemane. The Church was built in the year 1888 AD, upon the orders of the Russian Caesar Alexander the Third, to commemorate the memory of his mother, Maria Alexandrova. The Church has seven domes, which are different from all other domes of Jerusalem, as these domes are onion-shaped, reflecting the Russian architectural style.

The domes are also covered with a thin layer of bright gold, which immediately catches the eyes of spectators.
