Sabil Bab al-Silsila (Chain Gate)

Sabil Bab al-Silsila is located on the western side of Bab al-Silsila courtyard, at the beginning of Bab al-Silsila Street from the east. The Sabil has other names, among the most famous is Mahallet Bab al-Silsila (Bab al-Silsila Way).

Sabil Bab al-Silsila was established during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent on the 22nd of Rajab 943 Hijri / the 4th of January 1537 AD. The Sabil is composed of one architectural unit formed from a recessed niche wall, on top of which is a pointed arch, at the bottom of the arch is a commemorative inscription with the numerous names of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and his titles, in addition to the construction date. Below the inscriptions is a stone trough used to keep the water, which was used by passengers. The Sabil is currently inoperative.
